3D paper research

Hari and Deepti light up paper cutouts:

Deepti Nair and Harikrishnan Panicker’s work with light-up boxes made with cutout pieces of watercolour paper is impressive it caught my eye immediately. How the light flows through the paper and as more layers are added, the light from the LEDs gets dimmer. Even without colour, the soft light is enough and almost gives the art what seems like an otherworldly glow.

The couple started their work with the light boxes back in 2010. When first starting, they would paint the paper with watercolour. Over time, however, this would be dropped in favour of a more simplistic look.

Looking at all the 3D paper art has opened my eyes to what is possible when simple tools.

Hari and Deept’s use of light and paper to make something as interesting as boxes that tell a story through light shining through watercolour paper is interesting to see and pleasing to the eye. Not all art has too complex and colourful pieces, and I think their art represents that perfectly.
